With over 20 years experience in executive management, investment banking and public accounting, Charles Hilliard leads Demand Media's financial and general business operations. Charles most recently served as President and CFO of United Online (NASDAQ: UNTD) for over eight years, starting as CFO of its predecessor, NetZero in 1999. During Charles's tenure, United Online achieved a 100-fold increase in annual revenues as he helped lead the former start-up through its IPO and strategic evolution - including the acquisitions of Juno Online Services, Classmates Online and MyPoints.com - into an established member of the Standard & Poor's 600 Index with a market capitalization in excess of $1 billion.
Prior to United Online, Charles was an investment banker for nine years with Morgan Stanley and Merrill Lynch where he was involved with the successful execution of over $34 billion of strategic and financing transactions. Charles graduated with a B.S. in Business Administration from the University of Southern California and earned an M.B.A. with distinction from the University of Michigan. Charles began his career as an accountant with Arthur Andersen from 1985 to 1988 and was licensed as a certified public accountant in 1988.
