Now Millions Can Discover Hundreds of Thousands of Articles and Live Q&A on How to Do Just About Everything
SANTA MONICA, Calif., July 1, 2008 -- eHowTM, the website for how to do just about everything, today unveiled Quick Guides, the site's newest innovation. Quick Guides give the user a complete view of the most frequently requested topics by bundling relevant articles from experts and eHow editors with real-time information from the community. The eHow social media platform now enables the 17 million monthly visitors to discover and contribute relevant information on a range of topics.
"Quick Guides are an exciting and strategic enhancement for navigating the more than 300,000 professional and user-generated how-to articles and videos," said Gregory Boudewijn, general manager, eHow. "The remarkable audience growth over the past year drives our team to create features such as the Quick Guides, so every time people visit eHow.com they can quickly and easily find the complete information they seek."
The eHow development team leveraged Web 2.0 technology and functionality to build this new proprietary platform. It allows eHow experts, professional writers, and soon eHow members the ability to create new Quick Guides that package content found across the site. Every Quick Guide includes social Q&A that extends the content into a conversation, giving users timely answers to their questions. For launch, eHow editors created 250 Quick Guides based on the most popular topics on the eHow.com site, but the platform will soon support a limitless number of guides. Introductory Quick Guides include weddings, travel, cars, sports & fitness and personal finance.
"Our goal is to give everyone who comes to the eHow.com site exactly what they are looking for and we did this by creating hundreds of thousands of articles, but that's just the first step," adds Boudewijn. "Today, we can deliver great content to our users in a helpful way that is easy to navigate."
Every eHowTM Quick Guide will have a minimum of five articles and will pull from the comprehensive library of professional, expert and member-contributed content at eHow.com. In addition to these articles, the eHow site will serve up live, social Q&A on that topic. Previously, if someone was looking for information on gardening, they were required to search for multiple specific how-to articles, like "How to Make Compost" or "How to Start a Vegetable Garden." Today, this same person, when searching for this topic, will be provided with a single page - the Gardening 101 eHow Quick Guide - that includes multiple articles as well as related questions and answers.
